About Matthews, NC

Matthews’s original nickname was Stumptown. At the time that settlers moved into the town, cotton plantations were clearing much of the land. The nickname came from the leftover stumps of trees.

On the second and fourth Friday of the month in late summer and early fall, Food Truck Fridays make the historic downtown area come alive. Enjoy a foodie feat with craft beers and a range of delectable foods accompanied by great music and great company.

The Matthews Alive Festival takes place over Labor Day weekend. It’s a fun event, with carnival rides, live music, art and craft stalls, and a big parade. The festival plays out every year to support deserving local charities.

Pawsitively Matthews is a newer event on the social calendar but already popular. It’s a day to celebrate our four-legged friends and to make up for the fact that they’re not allowed to attend the Matthews Alive Festival.
