About Kannapolis, NC
Kannapolis is a hot and happening town. Home to the North Carolina Research Campus, it's also important for the research conducted there. From the name of the town, we forgive you for thinking that the founding father was Greek.
The name is a Greek term that could be translated to mean the City of Looms. The real story behind the name is perhaps more interesting. Workers of Cannon Mills Corporation coined the term based on the company name. People of the time spelled the original version with a "C," not a "K."
Architecture buffs should check out the Harvey Jeremiah Peel House. Also called Lady's Funeral House, it went up in 1923. It features strong lines in the Revival Colonial Style.
If that’s not quite old enough for you history buffs, Meek House just outside the town might well be. This elegant old dame was built in the 1830s and features elegant lines in the Greek Revival style.
