Four Mile Creek Greenway

In North Carolina, Four Mile Creek Greenway is a partnership between Mathew’s Town and Mecklenburg County. It joins Mathews Elementary to East John street through Squirrel Lake Park.

There are tons of activities along the Greenway for both you, your family, and your pets. Your dogs will be in heaven at the bubbling water rock feature that is along the trail, plus all the features of Squirrel Lake Park.

At Squirrel Lake Park, you can catch some playtime with your children or dog in the playground or fairy trails. The lake also features a fully decked dock, some ducks, and clean restrooms. Whether you are hiking, bike riding, or nature-watching, you won’t miss all the wildlife around you. There are plenty of beavers, white-tailed deer, and fascinating bird species along the Greenway.

The Four Mile Creek Greenway is well-designed and features plenty of places to rest with benches and birdhouses. The paths are paved, and some feature boardwalks.

The Four Mile Creek Greenway is only 3.2 miles, making it suitable for different skill levels. The best part about Four Mile Creek Greenway is that it is open all year long. You can hitch a bike the next time you are there or group yourself with other hikers and explore the different trails.

The Greenway is lined with magnificent Shortleaf Pine that is becoming a rarity in the region. Some of the species you will find at the streamside forest include Tag Alder, Musclewood, Red Maple, Tulip Tree, and Box Elder. Other species you’ll spot along the Greenway include century-old Red Cedars, Sycamore, American Beech, Swamp oak, among many others.

Be on the lookout for the rare Marbled and Spotted Salamanders, as well as different frog species.

The easiest way to get to Four Mile Creek Greenway from Well Doctor LLC is to drive along Mt Pleasant Rd S through NC-24 W/NC-27 W and I-485 Inner. It’s approximately 30.6 miles.
