Reedy Creek Nature Center & Nature Preserve

Covering 927 acres of natural forested habitat, Reedy Creek Park offers outdoor enthusiasts over ten miles of hiking trails meandering through a lush forested habitat. Visitors can explore different terrains while soaking in scenic views of streams, fields, forests, and wildlife. The park also hosts the two centers for biodiversity studies with live native animals, an exhibition hall, a gift shop, and classrooms.

Reedy Creek boasts 109 bird species, 15 animal species, 12 amphibian species, and 20 reptile species. Warblers have been documented breeding in the dense undergrowth along the park’s floodplain—a special sighting. Some of the unusual species in this park include Pale Hickory, Spotted Salamander, Broad-winged Hawk, and Conjurer’s Nut.

Visitors can stroll through the park and explore the nature preserve via trails that are well-maintained and never crowded. Bikes are allowed on paved roads and pit-graveled trails. Dogs are also welcome but must be on a leash.

For those who want to go back in time, you’ll be happy to know that ancient civilizations of great significance have inhabited this area. Native American artifacts dating from the Woodland period have been discovered here. On the back trails, you will also find the remains of Mecklenburg’s oldest home, the Robinson Rockhouse, which was built circa 1790

Do you love angling? Dragonfly and Slider ponds offer excellent angling opportunities, so bring your fishing rod along. You might catch largemouth bass.

The brush has been cleared from the banks of the two ponds, and a 50-foot platform girds the seven-acre ponds.

In 2010, Mecklenburg County opened a special children’s play area in the nature center. It’s built of woods and features several activities, including log balancing, grapevine crawl, stump jumps, and a sandpit.

It’s only  21.7 miles via NC-49S to get to Reedy Creek Nature Center and Nature Preserve from Well Doctor LLC in Charlotte.
